Smith has been an internationally recognized TV personality since
his 1976 debut as the teen segment host for Canada’s first
nationally syndicated dance show DISCO DAZE produced by fledgling
ITV in Edmonton Canada. He was 16. ITV was concurrently producing
another new show, a comedy series called Second City featuring John
Candy, Martin Short, Joe Flaherty and a host of unknown comedians.
Both shows became huge hits.
At 20 he moved to the United States to pursue a radio and television
career with stints at KATT, KZBS, KHYI, KODZ and as the morning
host on Dallas Texas’ KOAI Smooth Jazz 107.5
He conceived, wrote, produced, syndicated and hosted more than
350 episodes of SMOOTH JAZZ TV over 14 seasons with the final episode
airing December 17th of 2007. SJTV was seen in more than 30 major
US markets including Los Angeles, New York, Chicago, San Francisco,
Denver, Dallas, Detroit, Houston
and others on network affiliates including NBC, CBS, FOX, ABC and
globally on BET. SJTV was also carried globally on more than 15
airlines including United, Thai, Singapore, Air Varig and was broadcast
in 11 different countries.
He currently hosts the mid day show for Smooth Jazz Now weekdays
from noon to 3pm Eastern, the men’s fitness and tech adventure
show GEAR for Centerstage TV and serves as the artistic director,
host and program director of the Jazz Music Network on Facebook
the largest digital Jazz platform in the world with some 30,000
fans and more than 50 channels. As a writer his syndicated Jazz
columns can be seen in Jazziz as well as Wine and Jazz magazine.
