A NOTE from Cameron Smith
As the artistic director of the Jazz Series at the Bishop Arts Theater
Center I can tell you first hand that it’s a world class Jazz
experience. I’ve travelled the globe to some of the finest
Jazz venues in the world as the executive producer and host of Smooth
Jazz TV, Ronnie Scott’s in London, the Montreux Jazz Festival,
Monterey, Yoshi’s in Oakland and San Francisco and dozens
more so my expectations are incredibly high. So when we launched
the Bishop Arts Jazz Series last year we focused on the finest contemporary
Jazz talent in the world and brought it here to Oak Cliff’s
Bishop Arts Theater Center, the crown jewel of the Tyler Street
collective.
The fans are no more than 9 rows from the stage at our theater
so the intimacy and immediacy of the performances is stunning. Add
to that the fact that the artists love playing here and enjoy spending
time with the fans after each performance to connect on a human
and personal level. That’s what Jazz and our series is really
all about, a community of like minded people who enjoy each other’s
company and find strength and inspiration in our shared experiences.
These artists are my friends
who feel so blessed to come here to perform and spend time in a
city known for it’s warmth and hospitality, in a neighborhood
rich in history and diversity. This is home and the Bishop Arts
Theater is our living room to share with the brightest stars in
the world. It’s an experience you’ll keep with you for
the rest of your life.
I look forward to meeting you and welcoming you as our guest and
as our friend.
